CIBER is the acronym for Centres d’Investigació Biomèdica en Xarxa (Biomedical Research Centres Network), a network of biomedical research centres in Spain.
Each CIBER centre has its own legal status and characteristics. Their purpose is monographic research into a specific disease or health problem, defined in a general sense. The network is comprised of physically separate research groups that are financed by public or private organisations and belong to different government bodies and Institutions.
Their lines of research are centred on a specific common area and they coordinate with other groups to achieve scientific objectives which would be difficult to attain in a more restricted field of operation.
